Justice Paul Green Files for Re-Election to the Texas Supreme Court

Press Releases

Austin – Justice Paul Green today filed for re-election to the Texas Supreme Court, Place 5, at the office of the Republican Party of Texas in Austin.

Justice Green launched his campaign for re-election on July 1, 2009, asking voters to support him as he continues working to ensure fair and impartial decision-making on issues important to all Texans. Justice Green has been honored to receive overwhelming statewide support, and has been endorsed in his re-election bid by United States Senator John Cornyn.

“As a former Justice on the Texas Supreme Court, I know what it takes to serve and I know that Justice Paul Green has demonstrated he has what it takes to continue the job on the high court,” stated Senator Cornyn. “Paul’s judicial record is clear—he believes as I do that the role of any judge is to interpret the laws as written and not to write new laws from the bench. His conservative judicial temperament will continue to serve the people of Texas well and I encourage my fellow Texans to re-elect him to the Texas Supreme Court,” said Senator Cornyn.

Justice Green commented, “I am honored to have the support of Senator Cornyn and so many Texans all across this state in this important race. People want judges to be fair umpires and apply the law as written. Judges should not try to bend or rewrite the law to fit an outcome they might personally prefer. Instead, judges should perform their duties honestly and without favor to any person or interest group. I am proud of my record on the courts of this state and, with the support of the voters, I will continue serving Texans as a justice who believes in judicial restraint and who values the Rule of Law.”

Justice Paul Green was elected to the Texas Supreme Court in 2004 after serving ten years on the San Antonio Court of Appeals. Before becoming a judge, Justice Green practiced law for seventeen years representing businesses and individuals in courtrooms throughout the state.
